Landscaping Construction & Maintenance (LS)

Landscape Maintenance & Installation is a rapidly growing industry and employment opportunities continue to increase at a variety of levels within this career field. Jobs include employees who work for a landscaping company to individuals owning their own landscaping business. Due to increases in the housing market within the Las Cruces area, future demand for trained workers in the landscaping field will consistently rise.

The Landscaping program at MVTC will focus on two basic areas: Landscape Installation and Maintenance. During the installation component, students may design and build patios, walkways and retaining walls. Installation will also concentrate on watering systems, including drip and sprinkler systems.

Landscape maintenance will include the upkeep of an existing yard, ordering of materials, when to hire out work, and providing excellent customer service. Some components of the (NCCER) materials will be taught so that students will have an opportunity for certification in the construction industry. All the above mentioned areas are focused on providing students a variety of hands-on learning experiences.

           Other topic areas will include:

      Tool safety

      Tool identification and tool maintenance

      Concrete moldings

      Installation of walkways

      Staining

      Troubleshooting sprinkler systems

Costs of the various landscaping materials

      Bids vs. Estimates
